Episode 78: JFK - Where was Poppy on November 22, 1963?

Episode 78

In 1985, Joseph McBride stumbles on a memorandum about a "Mr. George Bush" being debriefed about Jack Kennedy's murder . . . yet we're told that that  George Bush had nothing to do with the C!A until January 1976 when Ford asked him to become the agency's director as a supposed outsider.

Welcome to con-sara-cy theories. Are you ready to ask questions you shouldn't and find information you're not supposed to know? Well, you're in the right place. Here is your host, Sara Causey.

Hello, hello, and thanks for tuning in. In tonight's episode, I will ask the question, Where was Poppy on November 22 1963 and don't worry, I'm not the first or the only person to ask this question. I got into this a little bit, going all the way back to Episode 12, which was titled operation Zapata, and the other George Bush, because we're told there was a George Bush in the Charlie India Alpha back in the 1960s but it's not that George Bush. It's not Poppy Bush, it's a George W Bush, but it's not that George W Bush, it's some other George W Bush. Sound confusing? Well, yeah, but it starts to get a lot less confusing when we really look at the evidence and we ask ourselves, wait a minute, where was Poppy the day that JFK was murdered? Choose your frosty beverage of choice, and we will saddle up and take this ride. I'm going to start this off by going to salon.com and visiting an article that was written by Russ Baker titled George HW Bush shaped history, but not the way we're told under the heading Poppy secret we read when Joseph McBride came upon the document about George HW Bush is double life, he was not looking for it. I'm just gonna butt in immediately and say, doesn't that happen to so many of us? We come across something that we're not looking for. I mean, I remember watching Oliver Stone's film JFK on a lark, having never seen it before that I could remember, and not ever having any interest in the murder of JFK, the life or the legacy or the politics of JFK. I was born toward the end of Gen X, so there's no overlap there. I wasn't alive when he was alive. I wasn't alive when he was murdered. So I never really cared. Sometimes it just finds us. Isn't that the case? I'll continue to read it was 1985 and McBride, a former Daily Variety writer, was in the library of California State University San Bernardino researching a book about the movie director Frank Capra. Like many good reporters, McBride took off on a slight, if time consuming tangent, spending day after day poring over reels of microfilm documents related to the Foxtrot Bravo India and the JFK Pop. Pop. McBride had been a volunteer on Kennedy's campaign, and since 1963 had been intrigued by the unanswered questions surrounding the most singular of American tragedies, a particular memo caught his eye, and he leaned in for a closer look. Practically jumping off the screen, was a memorandum from Foxtrot Bravo India director J Edgar Hoover, dated November 29 1963 under the subject heading pop, pop of President John F Kennedy Hoover reported that on the day after JFK murder, the bureau had provided two individuals with briefings. One was Captain William Edwards of the Defense Intelligence Agency. The other was Mr. George Bush of the Charlie India Alpha McBride shook his head. George H W Bush in the agency in 1963 dealing with Cubans and the JFK, pop, pop. Could this be the same man who was now Vice President of the United States, even when Bush was named Charlie India Alpha director in 1976 amid much agency bashing, his primary asset had been the fact that he was not part of the agency during the coups, attempted coups and murder plots in Iran, Cuba, Chile and other hot spots about which embarrassing information was being disclosed every day in Senate hearings for agency director Bush, there had been much damage to control the decade from 1963 to 1973 had seen one confident, shaking crisis after another. There was the Kennedy pop pop and the dubious accounting of it by the Warren Commission. Then came the revelations of how the Charlie India Alpha had used private foundations to channel funds to organizations inside the US, such as the National Student Association. Then came Watergate, with its Penumbra of agency operatives such as E Howard Hunt and their shadowy mis doings. Americans were getting the sense of a kind of sanctioned underground organization operating outside the law and yet protected by it. Then President Gerald Ford, who had ascended to that office when Richard Nixon resigned. Fired William Colby, the director of the Charlie India alpha, who was perceived by hardliners as too accommodating to congressional investigators and would be intelligence reformers now, Ford had named George H W Bush to take over the Charlie India alpha, but Bush seemed wholly unqualified for such a position, especially at a time when the agency was under maximum scrutiny. He had been a UN ambassador, Republican National Committee chairman and the US envoy to Beijing, where both Nixon and Henry Kissinger had regarded him as a lightweight and worked around him. What experience did he have in the world of intelligence and spying? How would he restore public confidence in a tarnished spy agency no one seemed to know. Or did Gerald Ford realize something that most others didn't. So I'm going to scroll down just a little bit here. In 1985 when McBride found the Foxtrot Bravo India memo, apparently relating to Bush's past, the reporter did not immediately follow up this curious lead Bush was now a recently re elected vice president, a famously powerless position, and McBride himself was busy with other things by 1988 however, the true identity of Mr. George Bush of the Charlie India Alpha took on new meaning as George H W Bush prepared to assume his role as Reagan's heir to the presidency, Joe McBride decided to make the leap from entertainment reportage to politics. He picked up the phone and called the White House, may I speak with the vice president? He asked McBride had to settle for Stephen Hart, a vice presidential spokesman, Hart denied that his boss had been the man mentioned in the memo, quoting Bush directly. I was in Houston, Texas at the time, and involved in the independent oil drilling business, and I was running for the Senate in late 63 I don't have any idea of what he's talking about. Hart concluded with this suggestion must be another George Bush McBride found this response troubling, rather detailed for a ritual non denial. It almost felt like a cover story that Bush was a bit too eager to trot out, he returned to heart with more questions for Bush. Did you do any work for or with the Charlie India Alpha prior to the time you became its director? If so, what was the nature of your relationship with the agency, and how long did it last? Did you receive a briefing by a member of the Foxtrot Bravo, India on anti Castro Cuban activities in the aftermath of the pop pop of President Kennedy. Within half an hour, Hart called him back. The spokesman now declared that though he had not spoken with Bush, he would nevertheless answer the questions himself. Hart said that the answer to the first question was no, and therefore the other two were moot. Undeterred. MCBRIDE called the Charlie India alpha, a spokesman for the agency, Bill Devine, responded, this is the first time I've ever heard this. I'll see what I can find out and call you back the following day. The PR man was tersely formal and opaque. I can neither confirm nor deny it was the standard response the agency gave when it dealt with its sources and methods. Could the agency reveal whether there had been another George Bush in the Charlie India Alpha Devine replied 27 years ago. I doubt that very much in any event, we have a standard policy of not confirming that anyone is involved with the Charlie India alpha, but it appears this standard policy was made to be broken. McBride's revelations appeared in the July 16, 1988 issue of the liberal magazine the nation, under the headline, the man who wasn't there, George Bush, Charlie India Alpha operative. Shortly thereafter, agency spokeswoman Sharon basso told The Associated Press that the agency believed the record should be clarified. Oh, I'm sure she said that the Foxtrot Bravo India document apparently referred to a George William Bush who had worked in 1963 on the night shift at the Langley Virginia headquarters, and that would have been the appropriate place to have received such an Foxtrot Bravo India report. George William Bush, she said, had left the Charlie India alpha to join the Defense Intelligence Agency. Certainly the article caused. George HW Bush, no major headaches. By the following month, he was triumphantly accepted, or triumphantly accepting, the GOP presidential nomination at its New Orleans convention, unencumbered by tough questions about his past. End Quote,

so there is a subsequent hunt to find this George William bush and Joseph McBride is able to the man was findable, and he was also still yet on the payroll for the US government by 1988 this George William Bush says that he's working as a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration. He tells McBride that, yes, he worked very briefly at the Charlie India alpha as. A G, s5 probationary civil servant. He was responsible for analyzing documents and photos during the night shift, but that he never received any kind of interagency briefings. More to the point he never received this specific Foxtrot Bravo India memo that we're told, Oh, it must have been the other George W Bush. Must have been some other George Bush, hmm, okay, so if it's not George William bush that received this memo, if hypothetically, it was actually Poppy, why was he getting a memo about the murder of JFK.

Just long pause there, because what the fuck

Speaker 2

before I go to some of Russ Baker's work in his fabulous book, family of secrets, I highly, highly recommend that you purchase a copy of that, whether you have any real interest in the bush dynasty or you don't, if you have an interest in the murder of JFK, it belongs on your personal bookshelf. It was wow for me. I mean, the first time I really read through it, I was like, holy shit. I'll get there first. I want to go over to John Hankey documentary, Dark Legacy. As of this recording, you should be able to find it free of charge on a variety of platforms. To be Plex freebie, I was able to watch it for free with no difficulties at all. Is it a perfect documentary? No, I would say not only No, but hell no. There are some errors that the filmmaker makes, and to me, it seemed like he really could have done with a better editing crew. But I presume this was probably something that was self published on a shoestring budget, and he was probably just having to rely on himself. I don't know that. I don't know this man, but you know, it's kind of like, Hey, guy should have had some better editing and some better fact checking here, nevertheless, because he gets into this question of, well, where was Poppy? Was he involved? And if so, how directly or indirectly was his involvement, hypothetically, in the murder of JFK. So Dark Legacy opens with footage from JFK is inauguration as he takes the oath of office in color. This is just my commentary in in color. Watching the video of the inauguration, we can see how red his hair is in the sunlight, the narrator says, we tend to see John F Kennedy as youthful, glamorous and vaguely progressive, but the day he died, we lost an invaluable treasure. We lost a man of peace who tried to get the American people to see our Cold War enemies not as despicable in human monsters, but as people like us from JFK peace speech we hear no government or social system is so evil that its people must be considered as lacking in virtue, but we can still hail the Russian people for their many achievements in science and space, in economic and industrial growth, in culture and acts of courage. I always think that it's really compelling when you can hear this kind of information in somebody's own voice. So what I'd like to do now is just allow you to hear these words from the peace speech, and JFK is own voice. I'm sure that this is in the public domain. So if you'll give me just a second, I will allow you to hear this excerpt of the peace speech in his own words,

Speaker 3

no government or social system is so evil that its people must be considered as lacking in virtue. As Americans, we find communism profoundly repugnant as a negation of personal freedom and dignity, but we can still hail the Russian people for their many achievements in science and space, in economic and industrial growth, in culture, in acts of courage. Among the many traits the peoples of our two countries have in common, none is stronger than our mutual abhorrence of war, almost unique among the major world powers, we have never been at war with each other, and no nation in the history of battle ever suffered more than the Soviet Union in the Second World War, at least 20 million lost their lives. Countless millions of homes and families were burned or sacked. A third of the nation's territory, including two thirds of its industrial base was turned into a wasteland, a loss equivalent to the destruction of this country east of Chicago today. Should total war ever break out again, no matter how our two countries will be the primary target. It is an ironic but accurate fact. Us that the two strongest powers are the two in the most danger of devastation. All we have built, all we have worked for, would be destroyed in the first 24 hours, and even in the Cold War, which brings burdens and dangers to so many countries, including this nation's closest allies. Our two countries bear the heaviest burdens for we are both devoting massive sums of money to weapons that could be better devoted to combat ignorance, poverty and disease. We are both caught up in a vicious and dangerous cycle with suspicion on one side, breeding suspicion on the other and new weapons, begetting counter weapons. In short, both the United States and its allies and the Soviet Union and its allies have a mutually deep interest in a just and genuine peace and in holding the arms race agreements to this end are in the interests of the Soviet Union as well as ours, and even the most hostile nations can be relied upon to accept and keep those treaty obligations, and only Those treaty obligations which are in their own interest. So let us not be blind to our differences, but let us also direct attention to our common interests and the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity, for in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's futures, and we are all mortal.

Speaker 2

The narrator continues, and though you're probably not aware, you lost the man who saved your life on October 17, 1962 He's referring, of course, to the Cuban Missile Crisis. JFK was being told that he and the top brass should hide in bomb shelters while the missile sites were attacked and Cuba was invaded. They were assuring Kennedy that the Russian missiles were not ready, but that they should all hide in the bomb shelters anyway, just to play it safe and leave everyone else out to die. Kennedy said, If anyone died, it would be them as the prime target of those Russian missiles. The generals were wrong. The Russian missiles were ready and were armed with nuclear warheads that the local commanders were authorized to use if attacked, a nuclear holocaust could have killed nearly everyone in the northern hemisphere, and JFK saved us from that. Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex, and his farewell speech before he died, JFK told the United Nations for in the development of this organization, rests the only true alternative to war, and war appeals no longer as a rational alternative. I'm going to butt in and say that this speech was actually in 1961 so the filmmaker is telling us shortly before he died. But it's like, okay, well, wait a minute, it wasn't really shortly before he died. It was 1961 after the death of dag hammer. This speech in front of the UN is also in the public domain, so I would like for you to hear it in JFK, his own words and in his own voice as well.

We meet here in an hour of grief and challenge. Dag Hammarskjöld is dead, but the United Nations lives his tragedy is deep in our hearts, but the tasks for which he died are at the top of our agenda. A noble servant of peace is gone, but the quest for peace lies before us. The problem is not the death of one man. The problem is the life of this organization. It will either grow to meet the challenges of our age, or it will be gone with the wind, without influence, without force, without respect. Were we to let it die, to enfeeble its vigor, to cripple its powers, we would condemn our future for in the development of this organization, rests the only true alternative to war, and war appeals no longer as a rational alternative. Unconditional war can no longer lead to unconditional victory. It can no longer serve to settle disputes. It can no longer concern the great powers alone for a nuclear disaster. Air spread by winds and water and fear could well engulf the great and the small, the rich and the poor, the committed and the uncommitted alike, mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind. So let us here resolve that Dag Hammarskjöld did not live or die in vain. Let us call a truce to terror. Let us invoke the blessings of peace and as we build an international capacity to keep peace, let us join in dismantling the national capacity to wage war.

As the filmmaker points out, it was a terrible loss to lose this man on November 22 JFK loses any say in what the history books would report about him, as Napoleon said, History is written by the winners. The most astonishing thing about JFK murder is not just the brutality of it, but how the mainstream media, even today can allege that it was not part of a conspiracy. We go now to Dealey Plaza and the Texas School Book Depository. We're reminded of the official narrative that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone from the sixth floor. A shot from behind would not have sent Kennedy back and to the left, the grassy knoll is a more likely place for the murderer. The filmmaker then discusses the botched autopsy and how Humes burned his original notes. The film shows an article from the New York Times stating that later in the afternoon, Dr Malcolm Perry, an attending surgeon, and Dr Kemp Clark, Chief of Neurosurgery at Parkland, gave more details. Mr. Kennedy was hit in the throat just below the Adam's apple. They said the wound had the appearance of the bullets entry. Mr. Kennedy also had a massive gaping wound in the back and on the right side of the head. However, the doctor said it was impossible to determine whether the wound had been caused by one bullet or two. I will butt in at this point because this Dark Legacy film is fairly graphic. He shows the Zapruder film and in particular, the kill shot numerous times along with autopsy photos. So if you're squeamish, or if you're like me, you've gotten to a point where it's like, Okay, I've seen it. I understand what it looks like. I understand what happens. I don't want to watch that over and over again. It's disturbing, it's grotesque. I just don't want to go there. Please be advised that there may be some times when you want to hide your eyes or sort of block out the screen whatever device you're watching this on, you might be like, Oh my God, not again, dude. It is graphic. And I think he sort of over does, showing the kill shot in the Zapruder film. I will say if someone has never seen it before, then they do need to understand what really happened. I don't care to just watch it over and over again. So I do want to warn you about that. Malcolm Kilduff is also seen at the press conference as pointing to his right temple as a location of JFK head wound. The doctors at Parkland confirm the wound in the back of Kennedy's head. How did the truth of Kennedy's murder become a secret? How did the lies begin and why do they continue? Are some of these powerful people still alive? The filmmaker asks, Can we help to give John Kennedy a voice to write his history as he would have written it. I think we owe it to him to try. I've written in my personal notes. I agree, so the filmmaker asked, What does it look like when real power kills? I've written in my notes like a man being publicly executed in front of God and everyone in Dealey Plaza, an interview from L Fletcher proudy, I think possibly from the men who killed Kennedy. Docu series is shown. He talks about the security not provided on November 22 that should have been provided. One example is the number of open windows along the motorcade route. We also see the Secret Service agent who is called off from JFK vehicle at love feel. You can literally see the guy make his gesture like, what the hell? Why am I being called off? The autopsy takes place at Bethesda rather than Dallas. The film quotes the research of David Lifton and the explosive revelation that surgery to Kennedy's head had been performed before the autopsy was ever started. Somewhere between Dallas and Bethesda. JFK body was tampered with. There was a difference between the coffin Kennedy was placed in at Dallas versus the coffin Kennedy was placed in at Bethesda. Kennedy arrived in a body bag, but was not placed in a body bag at Dallas. So when does the change happen and who does it okay? When criminals have been able to steal and alter the body somewhere in the air, was there an alteration to destroy any evidence of an entry wound from the front the autopsy photo of Kennedy's scalp hanging in pieces is pretty gruesome. We're told that this photo was taken before the autopsy. So why is Kennedy's scalp cut? Nova made a documentary in 1988 and invited the Parkland doctors to the National Archives to look at the autopsy photos. One of the doctors says that the jagged cut around Kennedy's temple looked different than what he saw at Parkland. So who did this? And how is it possible that Kennedy's body was taken during Johnson's swearing in. Also, if his death had been the doing of the mob, the Russians, the Cubans, etc, how could they have stolen and mutilated his body? How would anyone know that they needed to alter Kennedy's body anyway? Just mere hours after the murder, the filmmaker argues that there were powerful men who were accessories before the fact. Now we get to the real question of who had such power. The filmmaker brings up the spotlight magazine asserting that E Howard Hunt was involved. The article says that the Charlie India Alpha had a memo from 1966 saying they would have to explain Hunt's presence in Dallas on November 22 1963 hunt sued the magazine and gave thin and varied explanations of where he was that day. I've written in my personal notes. Mark Lane represented Liberty lobby and was successful in defending them against the defamation charges. As the filmmaker points out, the jury didn't believe that spotlight lied about hunt. We're told that Marita Lorenz was a Charlie India Alpha agent in operation 40. She talks about going with Frank Sturgis to Dallas and seeing e Howard Hunt there, allegedly, Sturgis tells Lawrence, you should have stayed. We killed the president, yet these people could not have stolen the body and altered it. So who did and then who could control the mainstream media to lie? The filmmaker starts with Nixon. There is a connection between Nixon and hunt with the White House plumbers and the Watergate burglary while in jail, Hunt tells Nixon that he needs $2 million dollars to keep his mouth shut. Keep his mouth shut about what, nebulously, we're told about the whole Bay of Pigs thing, meaning what, as the conspiracy theory goes, this was code for JFK murder. We're also told that Jack Ruby was working for then Congressman Richard Nixon in 1947 Nixon was in Dallas on November 22 I've written in my personal notes, there is proof of this. I'll drop a link, of course, so you can check this out for yourself, but you can go to Wikimedia Commons and see a copy of this. Us, Department of Justice, Foxtrot, Bravo India memo about Ruby and Nixon, and it talks about one Jack Rubenstein, which was Jack Ruby's name. One Jack Rubenstein of Chicago, noted that noted as a potential witness for hearings of the House Committee on UN American Activities is performing information functions for the staff of Congressman Richard M Nixon, representative of California. It is requested Rubenstein not be called for open testimony in the affirmation aforementioned hearings. You can go to YouTube and watch a little newsreel video about how Joan Crawford and Richard Nixon were in the baker hotel in Dallas on November 21 1963 as part of a Pepsi convention. I mean, this is documented. You can see them both there. There had also been a convention of the American bottlers of carbonated beverages. And there is a picture. It was published in the Dallas Morning News. I'll drop a link to it. I think it was also an AP photograph, if I'm not mistaken. But you can literally see a buzz of people from that convention going by the motorcade, and Jackie and JFK are waving at them. So, I mean, this is not like weird conspiracy theory. Oh, somebody said Nixon was there, but you you can't prove it. Well, no, actually you can. As the filmmaker comments, Nixon also offers more than one account of how he learned that JFK was dead, which is odd in World War 2 J Edgar Hoover was given the job of investigating American Nazis. He investigated the Nazi connections of the Union Bank of New York in 1942 the bank was seized as a Nazi asset. Prescott Bush was the director of this bank in. It so again, lest you think that did begin beer deep Dre I will drop a link to an article that was published in The Guardian back in 2004 how Bush his grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power. Rumors of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the trading with the enemy Act are still being felt by today's President George Bush's grandfather, the late US Senator Prescott Bush was a director and shareholder of companies, plural companies, that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany, the Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was director, was involved with the financial architects of Nazism, his business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the trading with the enemy Act, has led More than 60 years later, to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave laborers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre election controversy. End quote. Fritz Tyson was also involved in this web. Avril Harriman is also involved in this web at his trial against spotlight. Howard Hunt claims he was in Paris after World War Two, working for Avril. Harriman Prescott Bush buddies up with Richard Nixon in 1963 the filmmaker tells us Nixon was not one of the powerful devils. Haynes Johnson says RFK first instinct was that the Charlie India Alpha killed Jack. RFK Junior confirms this, and still does, even now you can go to the JFK facts sub stack and read the article titled RFK Junior, my father's first instinct was the Charlie India Alpha had done it. The insurgent Democratic presidential candidate opens up about the violent deaths of his father and uncle. You can also go to an article on Fox news.com so you're talking about a fairly right wing, friendly, presumably neocon friendly, institution. They also talk about documents that say Bucha his grandfather was directly tied to the men who funded Hitler. So we're not in the realm of conspiracy theory. Here in 1960 J Edgar Hoover wrote a memo about Oswald's involvement with the Charlie India alpha at the opening session of the Warren Commission. Wagoner Carr says you ought to know your boy Lee Oswald was working for the Foxtrot Bravo India, getting $200 a month with the ID number s, 179, Hoover was never asked about this. In 1963 Kennedy asked Hoover to locate the secret training camps that the Charlie India Alpha used to train anti Castro Cubans. He didn't want another Cuban Missile Crisis. JFK did not even know the location of the camps. A woman who was a secretary at the Lake Pontchartrain camp claimed she saw Oswald there just days before the Foxtrot Bravo India raided it. We're told that Oswald also attended the meeting with Sturgis and hunt allegedly, this was claimed by Marita Lorenz. The filmmaker has the notion that Oswald was spying on the Charlie India alpha on behalf of the Foxtrot Bravo India. And this is one of the reasons why he was chosen to be the Patsy. That's according to the filmmaker, that's his theory. On November 29 1960 3j. Edgar Hoover produces the memo naming Mr. George Bush of the Charlie India Alpha. Oh, but not that bush, some other bush. We are supposed to believe that Poppy was somehow appointed to be the director in 1976 with no previous experience at all inside the agency, when Bush was confronted years later, he claimed it was another George Bush, and this kicks off the hunt for a George W Bush that isn't W Allen Dulles worked closely with Nazi bankers during the war. Dulles was an architect of the Bay of Pigs and gets fired by Kennedy later, he would effectively run the Warren Commission in David Talbots book The Devil's chess board, which I highly, highly recommend he talks about Allen Dulles being busier than he ever was, even after he was fired by Kennedy, the Charlie India Alpha certainly would have the power to stage the cover up and the media gas lighting. As the filmmaker says, There will never be a memo produced that says, here's how we murdered Kennedy. Now I've written in my personal notes it's highly unlikely, but it's not impossible. Kennedy plans to dismantle. Charlie India Alpha. But naturally, the powerful devils will not lay down and let this happen. These are the words of the filmmaker. Okay. He's calling them powerful devils, which mean, hey, not a bad phrase. The filmmaker draws a web of connections that all come back to Prescott and poppy bush. We also see connections to Yale's skull and bone society. Prescott Bush writes a letter to C D Jackson stating that Neil Malin, who gives Poppy Bush a job, was well known to Allen Dulles, and has tried to be helpful in procuring people to serve in the Charlie India Alpha. There is also a letter on dresser industries letterhead from Mallon to Dulles discussing their pilot project in the Caribbean. What was this project? Was it Poppy himself and his oil business career? Or is it operation 40 Zapata is located near the epicenter of Charlie India Alpha activities in the Caribbean. E Howard Hunt was also the frontline supervisor of the pop poppers of operation 40. He had also supervised in the Bay of Pigs, as we know, the code name for Bay of Pigs was Operation Zapata. Poppy had the tendency to name things in his career after things in his personal life, such as naming two planes after Barbara and one of the ships for Operation Zapata was named Barbara, another ship was named Houston. It seems like a weird coincidence that operation Zapata and Zapata offshore were so close together. After working for Harriman, Hunt went to the Charlie India Alpha after working for Harriman. Richard Bissell also went to work for the Charlie India Alpha. Both were involved with the Bay of Pigs invasion. Also, the oldest son of harriman's closest associate went to work in the same outdoor office where hunt and Bissell were now operating Hoover's memo named Mr. George Bush as the Charlie India alpha, Supervisor of the Bay of Pigs invaders, the anti Castro Cubans. Again, it seems like this information is just not coincidental. H R Haldeman says no one seems to know who brought hunt into the White House. The narrator says it's not hard to figure out, because not only did hunt and Bush come to work in the White House at the same time, but no one else in the White House had any connections to the Charlie India Alpha operations. Hunt gets paid his hush money by Bill leidke Bucha, former business partner. We now hear about George demoren shield and how he buddied up to Oswald in a frontline interview, demoren shield says that Oswald liked Kennedy. The narrator still believes that Oswald was spying on the Charlie India alpha for the Foxtrot Bravo India in demoren Shields address book was Poppy's address, including his nickname Poppy. We're also shown the memo that on the day of Kennedy's murder at 1:45pm George Bush of Zapata offshore, called from Tyler, Texas. He says he heard a man named James Parrott talking about killing JFK. He also provides a bit of information and some phone numbers about where this man might be found. According to the memo, Poppy himself said that he would be staying at the Sheraton Dallas hotel until he went home on November 23 so as the filmmaker asks, was Poppy acting on behalf of the military industrial complex? The narrator says, there would have been no war in Vietnam had JFK lived. Bush rips JFK from us and delivers us back into the hands of the military industrial complex. So in Dark Legacy, the filmmaker is very clearly pointing a finger of blame at Poppy Bush as being, if not the only architect, some major player in the death of JFK. I want to go now to Russ Baker's book, family of secrets, as I said before, it is an excellent book, whether you have a strong interest in the Bush family or you don't, if you do have a strong interest in the murder of JFK, this belongs on your bookshelf. I'm at the beginning of chapter four, which is titled, where was Poppy? Seems like a lot of us are asking that question. Russ Baker writes George HW Bush may be one of the few Americans of his generation who cannot recall exactly where he was when John F Kennedy was shot in Dallas on November 22 1963 at times he has said he was somewhere in Texas. Bush was indeed somewhere in Texas, and he had every reason to remember at the time. Bush was the 39 year old chairman of the Harris County Republican Party and an outspoken critic of the president. He was also actively campaigning for a seat in the US Senate at exactly the time that Kennedy was put. Popped right in Bush's own state. The story behind Bush's apparent evasiveness is complicated, yet it is crucial to an understanding not just of the Bush family, but also of a tragic chapter in the nation's history. End quote a few pages later in this same chapter, Baker also talks about this weird phone call where Poppy fingers some other guy like, Hey, I heard this guy talking about killing Kennedy. So in this he writes, after George HW Bush accepted the Republican presidential nomination, a short article appeared in the San Francisco Examiner with the intriguing headline, documents, Bush blew whistle on rival in JFK slaying. The article began like this, a man who identified himself as George HW Bush phoned the Foxtrot Bravo India in Houston a few hours after President John F Kennedy's pop pop in Dallas to report that a right wing young Republican had been talking of killing the president. Foxtrot Bravo India, documents show end quote, as we also see in this chapter, Bush's press office, at first says that Bush had not made the call and they challenged the veracity of these reports. But then several days later, an aide says, well, Bush doesn't recall making that call. Now here's the text that Special Agent Graham W kitchell of the Houston Foxtrot Bravo India Bureau wrote up at 1:45pm Mr. George HW Bush, President of the Zapata offshore drilling company Houston, Texas residents, 5525, Brier, Houston, telephonically furnished the following information to writer by long distance phone call from Tyler Texas. Bush stated that he wanted to be kept confidential, but wanted to furnish hearsay that he recalled hearing in recent weeks, the day and source unknown, he stated that one James Parrott has been talking of killing the President when he comes to Houston. Bush stated that parrot is possibly a student at the University of Houston and is active in political matters in this area. He stated that he felt Mrs. Folly, telephone number such and so, and Arlene Smith telephone number such and so of the Harris County Republican Party headquarters would be able to furnish additional information regarding the identity of parent. Bush stated that he was proceeding to Dallas, Texas, and would remain in the Sheraton Dallas hotel and return to his residence on November 23 1963 and then he also furnishes his office telephone number. Kind of weird that an agency would report he did this, but then he would say, No, he didn't do it. And then he'd say, well, actually, just doesn't recall doing it. That's weird. Another oddity in all of this is that Poppy's wife, Barbara, writes this weird letter home and and it is weird. This is what she writes, dearest family. Wednesday, I took Doris Ulmer out for lunch. They were here from England, and they had been so nice to George and Greece. That night, we went to, I am writing this at the beauty parlor, and the radio says that the President has been shot. Oh, Texas, my Texas, my God, let's hope it's not true. I am sick at heart, as we all are. Yes, the story is true, and the governor also how hateful some people are. Since the beauty parlor, the President has died, we are once again on a plane, this time a commercial plane. Poppy picked me up at the beauty parlor. We went right to the airport, flew to Fort Worth and dropped Mr. Zeppo off. We were on his plane and flew back to Dallas. We had to circle the field while the second presidential plane took off immediately. Pop got tickets back to Houston, and here we are flying home. We are sick at heart. The Tales the radio reporters tell of Jackie Kennedy are the bravest I've ever heard. The rumors are flying about the horrid pop popper. We are hoping that it is not some far right nut but a commie nut. She literally writes that we are hoping that it is not some far right nut but a commienut. You understand that we know they are both nuts, but just hope that it is not a Texan and not an American at all. I am amazed by the rapid fire thinking and planning that has already been done. LBJ has been the president for some time now, two hours at least, and it is only 430 My dearest love to you all. Bar that's an awfully odd letter to be writing. And as Russ Baker goes into in this book, who the hell is she writing to? Who is she sending this to? Anyway, dearest family. There are some oddities in this book for sure, and Russ Baker is very good at probing them out. So let's get to the question, Where was Poppy physically? Where was he? Because there. A photograph that has gone around. I remember it in particular from Francis Richard Connolly's Docu series. Everything is a rich man's trick. He shows this picture of a man on the sidewalk November 22 1963 in Dealey Plaza, and he claims that it's Poppy. There's even somebody who's made a photo of like, here's here's Poppy, standing in a similar suit and tie, in a similar pose with similar body language. But as I said, in looking at that photo to me, it is not, pardon the terrible pun, a dead ringer. It's just not, I don't look at that photo and go, Holy shit, that's Poppy. I just don't to me like the profile, the brow ridge. There are details in that photo that, to me, just don't look like Poppy. I mean, I'd be happy to tell you if I looked at the photo and was like, that's him, that fucking bastard. That's him. I just don't see the photo as being a dead ringer for Poppy. I just don't So where was he? Where was he physically? Well, Russ Baker gets to that the Tyler story is borne out by the personal recollections of Aubrey Irby, then vice president of the local Kiwanis Club, and later President of Kiwanis international during Bucha his vice presidency, as Irby explained to the author, Kitty Kelly Bush had been waiting to deliver a luncheon speech to his organization, to 100 men gathered at Tyler's Blackstone Hotel. Now before I quote that, you know, James di Eugenio has done a good job in talking about kitty Kelly and her tabloid style reporting, particularly like Judith Exner and smearing Kennedy. So it's like, All right, well, is somebody talking to Kitty Kelly? The most reliable of sources? Judge for yourself. Now here's what this man, Aubrey Irby, says, I remember it was a beautiful day. Recalled Aubrey Irby, the former Kiwanis Vice President George had just started to give his speech when Smitty, the head bellhop, tapped me on the shoulder to say that President Kennedy had been shot. I gave the news to the president of the club, Wendell cherry, and he leaned over to tell George that the wires from Dallas confirmed President Kennedy had been Pop Pop. George stopped his speech and told the audience what had happened in view of the President's death. He said, I consider it inappropriate to continue with a political speech at this time. Thank you very much for your attention. Then he sat down. I thought that was rather magnanimous of him to say and then to sit down. But I'm a Republican, of course, and I was all for George Bush Kennedy, who was bigger than life, then represented extremely opposite views from Bush on everything. Oh, I bet I am quite sure of that.

So here's the story. If Poppy was in a room with 100 witnesses in Tyler, Texas, he wasn't standing on that sidewalk in Dealey Plaza, unless you want to really go down some crazy conspiracy theory rabbit holes about decoys and body doubles and Life Model Decoys and that kind of thing. But if he was really there giving this speech to the Kiwanis Club in Tyler, Texas, he wasn't in Dallas. Russ Baker continues in a 2007 interview with me, Irby described George HW Bush, at the time of the news as matter of fact and supremely well composed. It was not unlike his own son's composure in another moment of crisis, when after being told about the 911, attacks, he calmly returned to reading the pet goat to a class of Florida second graders, as for Barbara, she miraculously found herself in the unique position of actually writing a very long letter that began while Kennedy was alive, captured the first news of the pop pop, and then concluded with confirmation of his death. She, like Poppy, showed impressive composure and focus. End quote. So on the one hand, you can say, well, they weren't real torn up about the man's death, but again, that doesn't mean any of them were standing on that sidewalk in Dealey Plaza at the end of chapter six, which is appropriately titled The hit. Russ Baker, again, asks us the question, Where was Poppy part two? And he gives a summation. Now, there are so many amazing details in this book. It's the kind of book that you really have to read it and then reread it more than once. Really, I would say probably you could just sit down and focus on one particular chapter at a time to try to absorb all of the information, because it is chock full of information. And there are a whole host of podcast episodes that could come out of just the information that Russ Baker talks about in this book. It's it's really phenomenal. You can probably pick up a used copy. If you don't have the money to buy a new copy off Amazon, pick up a used copy somewhere for four or $5 I'm telling you, it is completely and totally worth. Of it. So in this summation at the end of chapter six, Russ Baker writes Poppy Bush was closely tied to key members of the intelligence community, including the deposed Charlie India Alpha head, with a known grudge against JFK. He was also tied to Texas oligarchs who hated Kennedy's politics and whose wealth was directly threatened by Kennedy. This network was part of the military intelligence elite with a history of using pop pop as an instrument of policy. Poppy Bush was in Dallas on November 21 and most likely the morning of November 22 he hid that fact. He lied about knowing where he was, and then he created an alibi based on a lead he knew was false, and he never acknowledged the closeness of his relationship with Oswald hander handler George demoren shield. Poppy's business partner, Thomas Devine, met with demoren shield during that period on behalf of the Charlie India Alpha poppies, eventual Texas running mate in the 1964 election. Jack Crichton was connected to the military intelligence figures who led Kennedy's motorcade. Crichton and D Harold bird, owner of the Texas School Book Depository building, were both connected to demoren shield and directly to each other through oil business dealings. Byrd brought in the tenant that hired Oswald shortly before the Pop Pop, Oswald got his job in the building through a friend of demoran shields with her own intelligence connections, including family ties to Allen Dulles, even Jack Ruby's slaying of Oswald fits the larger pattern here, one in which Oswald is indeed a patsy, a pawn in a deadly game who would never be permitted to say what he knew. Ruby himself practically admitted as much after his trial, he made a statement to reporters as to his motives in shooting Oswald, and essentially admitted to a conspiracy. Ruby, everything pertaining to what's happening has never come to the surface. The world will never know the true facts of what occurred. My motives, the people had that had so much to gain and had such an ulterior motive for putting me in the position I'm in. Will Never let the true facts come above board. To the world reporter, are these people in very high positions? Jack Ruby, yes, as with so many events in his life, Poppy had been very careful about November 22 1963 thanks to the Kiwanis lunch, Barbara's letter and the parrot phone call he could reasonably claim to have been out of the loop, even while people he knew certainly appeared to have been very much in it or far too close for comfort. End quote, so is that our answer? Where was Poppy on November 22 1963 while he was in Tyler, Texas, in front of at least 100 witnesses giving a speech to the Kiwanis Club, and then he finds out through a hotel employee that Kennedy has been murdered. And says, well, out of respect to what's just happened, I need to sit down and be quiet. It's not appropriate to give a political speech. If he was at this Kiwanis Club meeting, then he wasn't in Dealey Plaza. Does that absolve him of any knowledge or foreknowledge? No, of course it doesn't. Of course it doesn't. To me, as I said, I'm skeptical of that photograph of the man on the sidewalk that some conspiracy theorists say, oh, that's Poppy. That's him. That's proof he was there that day. I'm not certain that it was, and then now we have this story that appears to be a pretty damn good alibi that he was talking in front of a whole audience of people. It would be interesting to go back and see like, well, how many of those people are still alive now? Or, you know, maybe would have children that are still alive that could try to corroborate some of this. Is there any photographic evidence of him being there? I think all of that would be curious to see. So there's one possible answer. Where was Poppy on November 22 Well, he was in Tyler, Texas, giving a speech to the Kiwanis, not on the sidewalk of Dealey Plaza. There was a photo posted by someone on Cora purporting to be Poppy at this exact meeting of the Kiwanis on November 22 in Tyler, Texas. I can't confirm the veracity of that. I don't know if that's really the date. If this could be him at some other meeting of the Kiwanis, and somebody's just trying to convince us that it was him there that exact day, at that exact moment, I truly don't know. You'll have to judge for yourself. My conclusion is, if this is true, and he was at the Kiwanis meeting in Tyler, Texas, or any other Kiwanis meeting, for that matter, even if he was in a Kiwanis meeting in Dallas, Texas that day, if he was there when Kennedy was murdered, then he wasn't standing on the sidewalk at Dealey Plaza, does this absolve him of potentially, maybe allegedly being involved in other components? Components of the plot? No, of course, it doesn't. As Russ Baker points out, he has a lot of connections to people that were right in the thick of this plot, and he was certainly no fan of Jack Kennedy. Was he physically there? No, I don't think he was. Did he have some dealings, some dirty dealings that led to the murder of JFK, or somehow he was tied in with these power brokers and oligarchs that had a real say, along with the intelligence communities that most definitely wanted Kennedy the hell out of the way. Judge for yourself, stay a little bit crazy and I will see you in the next episode.
